Who writes it

Editorial is written by Emmett Halloran, a gaming law researcher in Ottawa who works from the statute rather than from summaries of it. That is why this site gives Bill C-218 two dates instead of one, names the paragraph the Act amended, and says plainly that the horse-racing exclusion survived. Most pages on this subject compress all of that into "Canada legalised betting in 2021", which is not a simplification but an error.

How it is funded

We earn commission when a reader signs up with an operator through a link here. That is the whole business model and we would rather state it plainly than bury it. It does not buy position, operators cannot pay to rank, and one brand sits on our list with no bonus figure attached because we could not source one.

What we will not publish

• A verdict on your own legal position. The Criminal Code provisions we describe regulate who may conduct and manage a lottery scheme. • Testing laboratory claims. No sourced audit-body fact exists here, so no laboratory is named anywhere on this site.
• Provincial availability claims. We do not tell you which offshore sites are or are not reachable from a given province.
• Regulatory claims we cannot stand behind. The operators we list are offshore. They are not registered with the AGCO and not conducted and managed by iGaming Ontario or the Alberta iGaming Corporation, and we say so where it matters instead of blurring it.

Corrections

Statutes are amended and cashiers change. Every figure we publish carries the date we captured it. If we have misread a provision or a term, tell us at [email protected] and we will re-read it and amend or remove the claim.
